SERGEANT MAJOR CHARLES L. KERSEY
A native of Sarasota, Florida via Port-a-Prince, Haiti, SGM Kersey entered the United States Army on 7 July 1987, attending Initial Entry Training (IET) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri followed by Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.

SGM Kersey has graduated with honors every NCOES course applicable to current grade of rank to include: Honor Graduate and Commandant’s List AIT; Commandant’s List, PLDC and BNCOC; Academic Excellence Awardee, Commandant’s List and Distinguished Leadership Award Recipient, ANCOC; Commandant’s List, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI); USASMA Small Group Distinguished Leadership Nominee (4-of-4 Phases) and Commandant’s List, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class #54. Awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (5th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (6th Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal (w/Bronze Star), Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/#4), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM), Korean Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Ribbon.In addition to the standard recognition awards cited above, SGM Kersey has received several non-traditional awards: V Corps Distinguished Small Unit (DSU) and Distinguished Small Unit Leader Award (DLA); NCO of the Year (Schweinfurt, Germany 1994); Hero of Hohenfels Award recipient; German Schutzenschnur (Bronze) and Sportmanship Competition Badge (Gold); coveted Air Assault Badge; nominated by FORSCOM and subsequently named by HQDA as one of the Army’s top EO Advisors (1999). Of all the awards and recognitions above the two SGM Kersey holds closest to his professional soul are his memberships in both of the elite Noncommissioned Officer Corps associations – Sergeant Morales Club (SMC) and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC), earning membership in 1993 and 1998 respectively.
